Half-Marathon - 1:24:30.56 (Handcart Days)

In my freshmen year, I lettered in both track and cross country. I also got the Rookie of the Year Award in cross country, and the Freshmen of the Year Award in track. At regions for XC I was 7th. At state I was 65th. In track at regions I placed 3rd in the mile and 2nd in the 2 mile. At state I was 17th in the mile and 13th in the 2 mile.

Sophomore year I was a cross country captain and I lettered again. I was 3rd at regions and 12th at state. At track regions I was 3rd in the mile and the 2 mile. I also anchored the winning medley relay team.

Junior year I got a stress fracture about a month before the cross country season started, but made a great comeback with a 2nd place finish at regions.  At state I placed 6th, and I broke 19 minutes for the second time in my racing history.  Team captain again. In track I shattered my old PRs and was doing well until I got a stress reaction.  After 3 weeks off I built my strength back up and performed well at state, earning 4th in the 1600 and 5th in the 3200.  After that, I was invited to the Great Southwest Track Meet in Albuquerque, where I took 5th.

My senior year in cross country I was a captain again, this time with Amanda and Natalie.  This season I was injury free so I got to run competitively at invites.  At state I took 3rd.  At Footlocker Western Regionals I outkicked a girl on the track to finish 10th, which qualified me for nationals the next weekend.  I beat both of the girls who had beat me at state in that race.  At nationals I took 22nd and beat 6 of the girls who had beat me at regionals.  Going into the outdoor season the first Invitational I attended was the Davis Super Meet where I qualified for state in the 1600 and the 3200, and I broke the meet record for the 3200 in an 11:01.29, the previous record was an 11:17.  I had a strong finish to my senior season and finally claimed a state title.  I ran the fastest 1600 and 3200 at state for any division, claiming the double crown in those events, and earning the athlete of the year award :)

Now in college, I run for the University of Utah.  I lettered my freshman season of cross country, and made it to regionals in the 5k in track.

Sophomore year I improved in cross country.  In track I raced the 1500, 5k, 800, 10k, and the mile of the DMR before repeating the 5k at conference and then the 10k at regionals.  Placed 28th behind a lot of seniors... so nationals next year!!

This morning we ran on the Pipeline Trail with the visiting team.  We ran up the way with the switchbacks, I haven't done that one since Amanda and I were freshman.  I started a few seconds behind everyone because I was still waiting for satellite, but it wasn't enough that it was hard to catch up.  Going up the switchbacks I caught up with the other team and Tomy, and eventually I passed them too.  They still had one guy kind of a way up ahead.  I was tired at the top of the switchbacks and I stopped for a few seconds, but then Tomy told me to keep going, so I did.  Then Tomy and I were in the lead for a while.  After recovering from the switchbacks 2 of the guys passed me, and by the turnaround at 3 miles Bill caught up to me and then was making me push to catch Tomy.  Around then one of the guys behind caught up and he and Bill took off, Tomy and I were taking it easy on the downhills.  Then to get more miles Bill wanted us to run to church fork where the bridge is.  Tomy and I did that and then just ran back to the cars to finish.  Afterwards I sat in the river twice, 5 minutes each time.  Good workout :)

This morning for practice we were at Sugarhouse.  For warmup we started a grass loop and then ran past the freeway to Parkway Avenue and up to 1700e and back into the park.  Then we went by the big road hill and did 10 laps on the grass there of just running up and down the hill.  Then we ran back over by the cars and did 2 sets of the circuit.  Then we got water and did a longer version of our warmup, going to 2700s and up to 1800e to make the loop.

This morning at Cottonwood Complex we started with the usual warmup of a lap around the baseball diamonds and then out on the road for a total of 3 miles warmup.  Then we did fartlek on the region course in the park.  We did 1 minute on, 1 off, 2 on, 1 off, 3 on, 2 off and then the same going back down (3 minute on twice).  By the time I finished I was at the start of Bessie before the finish so I ran that and then stopped.  Then for cooldown we stayed in the park and ran where it was flat.

This morning we met at Shoreline for practice.  We ran out 2.3 miles because there was construction tape closing off where they are still cleaning up from the oil spill.  When we got back we went out .7 on the road and back to make it the full 6.  Afterwards we did our crunches and pushups.

This morning I did my warmup with Abigail, we went out .75 of a mile and back on the equestrian trail.  Then I changed shoes and we got on the line.  When the race started I went out too fast, I went with the pack of lead girls.  After a bit Maryanne caught up to me and I stayed with her for a while and then we caught Emily and I was losing Maryanne so I tried to push with Emily too but I lost her a little before the mile mark.  My mile time was 5:48 (I was confused by the paint mark being at a different place than the sign, so I only caught the 1 mile split).  I should have pushed harder the rest of the race but I had worn myself out already.  Afterwards I ran the last mile backwards and then back to the finish for cooldown.
