Half-Marathon - 1:24:30.56 (Handcart Days)

In my freshmen year, I lettered in both track and cross country. I also got the Rookie of the Year Award in cross country, and the Freshmen of the Year Award in track. At regions for XC I was 7th. At state I was 65th. In track at regions I placed 3rd in the mile and 2nd in the 2 mile. At state I was 17th in the mile and 13th in the 2 mile.

Sophomore year I was a cross country captain and I lettered again. I was 3rd at regions and 12th at state. At track regions I was 3rd in the mile and the 2 mile. I also anchored the winning medley relay team.

Junior year I got a stress fracture about a month before the cross country season started, but made a great comeback with a 2nd place finish at regions.  At state I placed 6th, and I broke 19 minutes for the second time in my racing history.  Team captain again. In track I shattered my old PRs and was doing well until I got a stress reaction.  After 3 weeks off I built my strength back up and performed well at state, earning 4th in the 1600 and 5th in the 3200.  After that, I was invited to the Great Southwest Track Meet in Albuquerque, where I took 5th.

My senior year in cross country I was a captain again, this time with Amanda and Natalie.  This season I was injury free so I got to run competitively at invites.  At state I took 3rd.  At Footlocker Western Regionals I outkicked a girl on the track to finish 10th, which qualified me for nationals the next weekend.  I beat both of the girls who had beat me at state in that race.  At nationals I took 22nd and beat 6 of the girls who had beat me at regionals.  Going into the outdoor season the first Invitational I attended was the Davis Super Meet where I qualified for state in the 1600 and the 3200, and I broke the meet record for the 3200 in an 11:01.29, the previous record was an 11:17.  I had a strong finish to my senior season and finally claimed a state title.  I ran the fastest 1600 and 3200 at state for any division, claiming the double crown in those events, and earning the athlete of the year award :)

Now in college, I run for the University of Utah.  I lettered my freshman season of cross country, and made it to regionals in the 5k in track.

Sophomore year I improved in cross country.  In track I raced the 1500, 5k, 800, 10k, and the mile of the DMR before repeating the 5k at conference and then the 10k at regionals.  Placed 28th behind a lot of seniors... so nationals next year!!

Today I ran to Sugarhouse, did a lap, and came back.  I was going to do 2 laps but I was feeling dehydrated and exhausted and didn't feel like running.  I did my crunches and pushups after a while, I almost didn't do them at all though.  Maybe tomorrow will be a better run.

Tonight I went to a speedworkout in Sugarhouse.  I was late so I started with a backwards warmup lap around the outside of the park.  But when I was nearly finished I saw Bill and Dakota going the other way so I joined them.  When we got to the the track I did 4 laps speed changes and a lap recovery.  Then I changed shoes for some 400s.  I hit a 1:13, and then a 1:17, and had a lap recovery between each.  Then I was going to do 200s.  I did one, but my leg started hurting where I had a stress reaction before.  I think I might have aggravated it playing street games yesterday...  So I stopped the workout then and went home and took a 20 minute ice bath.  I did my crunches and pushups.  I think the ide bath will probably help, I still need to be careful though.

Tonight I did laps at Sunnyside Park.  I was planning on doing 4 but at around 3 my leg started throbbing where my injury was.  I decided to stop before it started hurting.  I put ice on it when I got home, and I did my crunches and pushups.

Today I had iced my leg for a while.  Then in the evening I went for an easy run at Sunnyside.  I started with 2 laps around the field which was about .75 because I forgot that the 800 was only 1 lap to the tree and I was thinking 2 laps.  Then I stretched lightly, my leg was burning a little so I didn't want to overdo it.  Then I did 5 sets of 30 seconds on and off fartlek, which was another 2 laps.  Then I did about a mile cooldown.  I did my crunches and pushups, and put ice packs on it again.

Today at the first stop the bus made I ran for a few minutes in the parking lot to stay loose.  In the evening after arriving in Albuquerque I went to the track to see how it was and I did some short strides and drills.  Back at the hotel I took a 20 minute ice bath (though the water wasn't that cold, I had to put ice in it, which melted after about 2 seconds so it seemed, and I barely had goosbumps).  Hoping for a good race tomorrow, working on staying hydrated.

I drank water throughout the day to make sure that I was hydrated.  In the morning I went to the track with Macee just to kind of look around.  All afternoon we stayed in our room and watched tv to pass the time.  Finally at around 7 we headed to the track.  When Bill arrived he brought my new spikes :) I took my Gu and then went to a side field and put on my spikes and did a short warmup, it was about 90 degrees so Bill said I didn't need to do a lot.  Then I stretched and did my usual drills.  Finally I was able to check in, I was hip 8.  Then on the track I did a few strides.  A couple of minutes before my race Bill poured some water over me so that the heat wouldn't get to me.  I had a team prayer with the other girls and then we got on the line.  It was neat that there were 5 of us Utah girls in a row, seeds 2 through 6.  When the race started I went out at just the right pace says Bill.  The first lap was about 1:18 I think, the second was at 2:36 if i remember correctly.  I was able to work up into the lead group by then, I was with Macee and a Colorado freshman who was amazing! (she won). At the mile I hit a 5:35.  At lap 5 or 6 Kelsey and Summer caught up with me.  I hung on them for a little bit, but on the next lap I tried to go around them but it didn't work and then I couldn't hang onto them.  In the 7th lap a girl from I think Arizona caught and passed me.  But on the last lap I was able to outkick her with a little more than 100 to go, she didn't try to stay with me.  It was awesome on the award stand, Utah girls took 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th.  It was a great experience, though I have the worst runner's cough I've ever had!
