Half-Marathon - 1:24:30.56 (Handcart Days)

In my freshmen year, I lettered in both track and cross country. I also got the Rookie of the Year Award in cross country, and the Freshmen of the Year Award in track. At regions for XC I was 7th. At state I was 65th. In track at regions I placed 3rd in the mile and 2nd in the 2 mile. At state I was 17th in the mile and 13th in the 2 mile.

Sophomore year I was a cross country captain and I lettered again. I was 3rd at regions and 12th at state. At track regions I was 3rd in the mile and the 2 mile. I also anchored the winning medley relay team.

Junior year I got a stress fracture about a month before the cross country season started, but made a great comeback with a 2nd place finish at regions.  At state I placed 6th, and I broke 19 minutes for the second time in my racing history.  Team captain again. In track I shattered my old PRs and was doing well until I got a stress reaction.  After 3 weeks off I built my strength back up and performed well at state, earning 4th in the 1600 and 5th in the 3200.  After that, I was invited to the Great Southwest Track Meet in Albuquerque, where I took 5th.

My senior year in cross country I was a captain again, this time with Amanda and Natalie.  This season I was injury free so I got to run competitively at invites.  At state I took 3rd.  At Footlocker Western Regionals I outkicked a girl on the track to finish 10th, which qualified me for nationals the next weekend.  I beat both of the girls who had beat me at state in that race.  At nationals I took 22nd and beat 6 of the girls who had beat me at regionals.  Going into the outdoor season the first Invitational I attended was the Davis Super Meet where I qualified for state in the 1600 and the 3200, and I broke the meet record for the 3200 in an 11:01.29, the previous record was an 11:17.  I had a strong finish to my senior season and finally claimed a state title.  I ran the fastest 1600 and 3200 at state for any division, claiming the double crown in those events, and earning the athlete of the year award :)

Now in college, I run for the University of Utah.  I lettered my freshman season of cross country, and made it to regionals in the 5k in track.

Sophomore year I improved in cross country.  In track I raced the 1500, 5k, 800, 10k, and the mile of the DMR before repeating the 5k at conference and then the 10k at regionals.  Placed 28th behind a lot of seniors... so nationals next year!!

Today I went for a run with the team.  We decided to save our Trax allotment for Friday (last week Kep told us we could do it once before Christmas break :( ) so each day has been a struggle finding somewhere to run.  But today it was zoo loop!  My favorite!  Not really, but out of the options in the Foothill direction it is good enough. :)  We were in a group until about 3.75, then as is the norm everyone turned except for Hilary and me.  I am so glad she also does high miles and will do them with me! :)  We ran to the drinking fountain by the freeway and took a stretching break before running back.  We cut through the golf course because we had intended to do hills at Huntsman, but when we got back to campus we just decided to run out and back on the road above the track.

Today we had a workout at Liberty!  :)  I wore my black rain hat and it rained :)  and the temperature was perfect :)  I just love workout days when I go into them with this positive of an attitude :)  For warmup we did the usual from the 900e Trax station, adding a little extra with Hilary around the edge of the park.  We did our usual strides and drills and changed shoes.  I ran without tape!  And changed into flats for the first time in ages!  That's just how excited I was for this workout!  It was ten 800s with 30 seconds recovery, I was just supposed to go at Kate's pace of 3:08 and we were to stay as even as we could.  The times fluctuated between each section of the park but the times on the same sections were consistent.  We hit 3:12, 3:00 (the first one had felt like I was pushing hard and then I was surprised how slow it was, I guess it was just extra warmup), 3:05, 3:08, 3:06, 3:04, 3:09, 3:07, 3:05, 3:11.  They felt great, a challenge but not too difficult.  Having such short rest also was not bad because it meant we didn't stand around forever between reps.  Eventually (like January probably) the stuff will get faster I think.  After the last one Kate and I did strides with Hilary back to where we started and then changed shoes back. Kate panicked when the other girls almost left her and she would have been stuck with Hilary and I for cooldown!  Muahahaha! :)  For our cooldown we ran the long way around the park and back to the 900e station, and caught the same train as the other girls :)  My knee did hurt a little bit during the workout during the first few reps but I didn't notice at the end.  I think I will start icing after workouts.  For warmups in rehab I just bike now instead of heating pad.  Each day I keep making progress :)

I went and got my second lift of the week done today and then got my blood drawn for iron testing again.  So I cut my miles to just 3 today.  I started with the girls on Foothill, but they turned early.  I did the Albertson's loop but came back on 1900e instead of 21st.  Did one lap around the Huntsman when I got back to get to the full 7.

Today we were supposed to do a hilly run, and decided to do an out and back on 11th Avenue (this did NOT count for the Trax run since we weren't running all the way down!)  The other girls turned early and as usual it was Hilary and I going for higher mileage.  It was really foggy up on 11th and in the canyon, so we decided to run down Memory Grove to sunny downtown so we could run back up South Temple :)  also not Trax :)  and still hilly :)  and happy because it was sunny now :)  When we got up to 1400e we ran over to President's circle and up and then made a loop around the institute parking lot and back to the locker room to finish at 9 for the day.  Then we went to the weight room and foam rolled for a bit before catching the bus home since we are neighbors now :)

This morning after my final class of the semester (YAAAYYY!!!) I went and got my rehab done and went for a run on my own since I am going to a PT info session later in the afternoon.  (Also exciting!)  I took my iPod and ran the zoo loop route up onto Wasatch.  I hit 3.5 just past 1300s and ran back the same way.  Coming down Sunnyside I actually saw the elephants as I ran by!!  Usually there are wooden posts or something up but not today :)  When I got back to Foothill the lane of traffic by the sidewalk was closed so I took advantage of it and ran in the road :)  I thought I might confuse some people into thinking there was a road race going on..  Heehee.  When I finished I stretched for a bit and iced my knee.

This morning after sleeping in and studying for a bit I took a break to go running :)  I ran to Liberty Park, did a lap around the perimeter, then ran out on 700e.  At 1700s I cut up to 900e and then over to 2100s and up to 1300e.  Along 21st and 13th people suck at looking both ways when they pull up to turn!  And they all had phones in their hands!  I seriously think I might go print on some neon shirts with black letters saying "Hang up, save a life" on them to wear for the winter!  Planning the design of these shirts occupied my mind the rest of the run.
